Middle Tenn St

Well if you have not heard, the QB for Middle Tenn St. is not eligible to play on sept 2 for an alleged violation.

Too bad but it definitely takes this game off the board for me. Dasher, the qb was poised for a big season but unfortunately it looks like he took a loan. The loan will likely hurt him in the draft but worse will cost his team some wins.

I will be sharpening up my picks for Thursday and will probably post them Monday or Tuesday.

Week 1 Initial Picks

Here are my initial picks- I will firm these up and assign ratings a bit later.

Middle Tenn St -4.5 vs Minnesota. It is surprising to see a very non BCS team coming in as a solid favorite over a big 10 team. However, I think there is a very good reason that the Raiders are a favorite.

Colorado St +12.5 vs Colorado- I am not really optimistic that the Rams will have a good season but I am pretty sure that CU has pretty much packed it in this season and will let the Hawkins era come to an end. With that, i don't see the Buffs covering this number.

Miss St -21 vs Memphis- Looking back my games to circle, this number makes a lot of sense to me. i think the Bulldogs will be on the rise this year while memphis is strictly rebuilding.

Oregon St +12.5 vs TCU- I have been on the TCU bandwagon for a while but I think this will be a letdown year for them. Oregon St meanwhile has been steadily improving and will give the Horned Frogs a real good game and cover the spread easily.

Nebraska -36.5 vs W. Kentucky- A big number but I will not be at all shocked if the Huskers score 56+ points in this one and if that happens then the 37 will be easy money.

Games to Watch

Here is a list of games that I will keep an eye but likely not picking a side. I think these games will be a good indication of how to bet these teams in the future.

S. Miss @ S. Carolina- There are some pretty high expectations for the gamecocks. I am interested to see how their offense comes together. S. Miss flew under my radar last year so I am looking to see if they can step in class.

Pittsburgh at Utah- I may be tempted to place a small wager on this game but a real nice non conference game that should expose one team as a pretender.

Illinois vs Missouri- Is this the start of the Ron Zook death watch or will his coaching changes make a difference. A bad loss here probably sends the Illini reeling.

Cinci at Fresno St- Good test for the bearcats to see if they will be dropping off or if they can still be a BCS contender. Fresno St has been lackluster the last few years and a win here could kickstart their season.

Games to Circle #4

OK- things are starting to get a bit clearer as my research gets deeper.

Going a bit farther into the season I have found a game I like:

October 9th

Northern ILL ATS over Temple- subscribing to the earlier post about the 3 away then play then this game could be a perfect fit. The huskies will return a solid defense that should hold its own. The offense could be pretty good as well assuming they can stay healthy. NIU will be coming off 2 big 10 opponents and then Akron. Assuming they can win 1 or 2 of those games then they will be ready for a big early home showdown vs temple.

Also

September 4th

Another big spread game will be Wisconsin home vs UNLV. Nevertheless, I do like the Badgers to cover the big number. UNLV has been struggling and has gone with a new coach. This should be a good thing down the road however he is scrapping the spread offense and going with a traditional offense. With the first game out against a very stout Wiscy squad look for a rough start for the Rebs. Plus their offense was quite poor last year and will not be in a condition to carry the load while the offense gets it act together.
