Hoops February 26 Part 2

Going to tempt fate in this one.

5 Star Play

Baylor -3 vs Texas A&M- Not sure why but I have lost all year betting on or against A&M. Baylor has been an up and down team but I am looking for a solid effort tonight. A&M has pulled out some tough road wins but I look for their luck to run out tonight.

Hoops February 26

Here is my early game lineup.

5 Star Play

Kansas St -4 vs Missouri K State has not been the factor that a lot of us thought they would be this year. However, with Tourney time approaching, they are a team to keep an eye. If Pullen can get hot, he can carry them along way. Mizzoo's wide open style should play into the hands of K State especially if they can bury some 3's early.

Top Plays

San Diego St -3 vs BYU and Missouri St -1 vs Wichita St

Both of these games will determine their respective conference champions. For San Diego St, they are stil looking for the national recognition that has eluded them. For Missouri St, they are looking to wrap up a tournament bid regardless of what they do in their post season tourney. I like both home teams to make a statement.

College Hoops Feb 24

Nice effort last night by Missouri St. Time to keep it going.

5 Star Play

USC -1.5 vs Arizona- I was able to successfuly fade Arizona on Saturday and I like tonight's game even better. Arizona was able to win a squeaker but they needed a bit of luck to get the win but were not able to cover. The game against Washington was an up and down game with little defense.

Against USC they face a whole different attack. When USC wins, they play solid defense and hit the boards. Arizona will be in for a rude awakening when they allow easy baskets but get stifled on offense. Add the homecourt advantage for USC on top of that and you will see another top 10 team fall hard.

College Hoops Feb 23

One game that I really like tonight.

5 Star Play

Missouri St -4.5 vs Southern Ill- Missouri St was an unsuccesful pick for me last saturday as they came up against a Valpo team that brought its A+ game. Missouri St actually played pretty well but Valpo played way over their heads. This was evidenced by them losing the other night to Wisconsin Green Bay a team not nearly as talented.

Anyhow, I maintain that Missouri State is a very talented team and will bouce back in an important game for them. They are still in a good position for a tourney birth and need to keep winning conference games to solidify. For S. Ill, it has been a long season and I don't see them having the motivation to keep up tonight.

College Hoops 2/19

Feeling good about these picks...

Top Picks

Alabama/Arkansas under 129- Bama is hitting their stride and making a run towards the tournament. Their calling card is defense and a deliberate offense that runs through the post. Those 2 factors will keep the score low.

OK St -2 vs A&M- The aggies are a bubble team and will use this showcase gae to get them in position for a post season run.

Leans

Washington +2.5- Curious line in this one. Arizona is highly ranked while Washington started fast but has tailed off. However Zona at home is only a 2.5 fav? That's my cue to take the Huskies.

Cincinatti -1.5 vs Providence- I am trying to be leary of road favorites but I think this is a good spot for the Bearcats to take take of business. Providence has some talent but the Bearcats are making their run to get a tourney bid and will be all business in this and get the cover.

Missouri St +2 vs Valparaiso- This is a real nice match up and Missouri St is a very good team that few people know about. They definitely need this one to bolster their rankings and give them a boost as they head towards their post season tourney.

Rookies vs Sophomores All Star Game

I took a little break to lock myself in the lab and get some picks together.

No official picks tonight but some fun with Rooks/Soph game.

I am putting a little parlay on the Sophs -5.5 and over 252.5 and taking a flyer that the MVP will be Stephon Curry +700.

This is usually nothing more than a really ragged game which features a lot of dunks and 3 point shots. Hopefully Stephon will get hot and get the much vaunted MVP call.

NBA and College Hoops Feb 9

Time to work on basketball full time again.

Nothing too exciting tonight but there are a couple of games I like.

NBA

Cavaliers -1.5 vs Detroit- The losing streaks ends tonight for Clevetown.

Chicago/Utah under 194.5- The bulls have been torched the last 2 games on the road. Their defense will be much improved tonight. Not sure if it will be enough to win but should be lower scoring.

NCAA

Missouri -3.5 vs Texas A&M- Good chance for the Buffs to get a quality win vs a fading Aggies team.

SuperBowl Picks and Props

Here are my Superbowl picks and props that go along with them.

I think the Steelers will win the game 30-23 therefore instead of just taking the points, I will take the Steelers -4 +242 as well as the points +2.5

I will also take the over 44.5 and over 49 +157 and Pitt team points over 21.5 and over 27 +168.

On to the game itself. I think Roethlisberger will have a big passing game. The Steelers have played against 3-4 defenses all season and with the extra week to prepare will be ready to exploit opportunties as they arise.

Hines Ward over 3.5 receptions -110
Pitt Scores a TD in 1st Quarter +140
Roethlisberger TD pass longest completion over 35.5 +100
Roethlisberger over 1.5 TD passes +115
Roethlisberger throws a TD pass in each half +220

On the Packers side, I see Donald Driver stepping up and having a big game.

Driver has a TD catch +255

I will also think there will be a safety (ok, probably not) +800
Longest Score a TD (vs field goal) -125

OK, enough of this craziness!

NBA Hoops Feb 5

I like a couple of games tonight

5 Star Play

Bulls -3.5 vs Warriors- There are few things that you count on in the NBA but one pretty good angle is the "post all star snub big game to prove you made a mistake" performance. Each year it seems like a worthy player or two does not get the all star nod after the voting and then that player and their team tear it up in the next game. The bulls fit this description. Both Deng and Boozer had very good first halves, especially Deng and helped their team hit the top of the standings but yet no all star pick.

Add that to the fact that the bulls are playing really well and going against a bottom feeder and it adds up to the Bulls covering the 3.5.

Top Pick

Memphis +4.5 vs Rockets- Memphis is on a hot streak and will carry the momentum into the game tonight and get the cover here.

Hoops Feb 5 Part 1

Starting today with:

Top Pick

Northwestern -1 vs Illinois- Big revenge/embarrassment factor here as NU was destroyed last month at Illinois. Add that to Illinois' inability to handle tough road games and NU will be able to come away with victory.

I also like NU in the first half as well. Last time out, Illinois played so well their will be a natural complacency as Ill will expect to do the same things that worked well last time. Meanwhile, NU will come out focused and throw some wrinkles at the Illini.

NBA Picks Feb 4

A couple of NBA games on the slate for me tonight.

Top Picks

Dallas +7 vs Boston- Dallas continues on their hot streak. They may not win this one but it will be a dogfight to the end.

Phoenix +2 vs OKC- The Suns have been up and down but currently are trending up. Look for that to continue against the Thunder in front of the home crowd

Lean

Charlotte +4.5 vs Miami- I think the Bobcats will come to play. They have stepped it up since the coaching change and match up very well against the Heat and if they can keep their composure, they can get the W and certainly the cover.

College

Lean:

Dartmouth +11 vs Penn- digging deep to get a college winner!

College Hoops Feb 2

Now that we are in February, time to separate the good teams from the bad ones and look at the teams that will put themselves in some kind of post season tournament and fade the ones headed nowhere.

Top Picks

Drake +8 vs S. Illinois- Two pretty even teams, I like the points in this one.

BYU -14.5 vs Wyoming- Wyoming can't catch a break, Saturday they caught San Diego St after their and took a beating, now BYU coming off a loss vs N. Mexico. Look for another ugly loss.

Leans

Drexel -13.5 vs Towson
Ohio -1.5 vs C. Michigan
Richmond -13 vs St Joes
Northern Ill +11.5 vs Illinois St.
