NBA & NCAA 1/24

On a bit of slide however will press on.

NBA Top Pick

Miami -13.5 vs Cleveland- Miami is coming off a loss and Cleveland is downright bad. Should be a blowout.

NCAA Top Pick

Wyoming -2 vs SD St- This game started at a pick and I thought the money would jump on the Aztecs. However the big money is going on the Cowboys and I am joining. I like the under 123 in a parlay as well.

NBA & NCAA 1/23

A couple of west coast games tonight.

NBA Lean

Golden St -2.5 vs Memphis- Golden St has played well at home and getting past some early injuries. Close game but the Warriors will get the win and cover

NCAA Lean

Santa Clara/Loyola Marymount over 149.5- Both teams like the up tempo game and neither puts a high premium on defense so average or better shooting pushes this game over easily.

NBA & NCAA 1/19

Mixed bag last night- some small plays today.

All Leans:

NBA

LA +5.5 vs Miami- Like Laker's size in this one to exploit Miami's lack of quality big men.
Utah -2.5 vs Dallas- Utah has been red hot at home.

NCAA

Oregon/USC under 113.5- the total is this low for a reason.
Illinois -2.5 vs Penn St- I think Ill is ready to step up and get a road big 10 win.

NCAA Hoops 1/18

Action for tonight:

Top Picks:

New Miexico -8.5 vs San Diego St

Missouri St +1 vs Creighton

Lean:

Villanova +1 vs Seton Hall

Writeups:

New Mexico has been flying under the radar and has a talented squad. SD St is coming off an emotional win and will be in let down mode in a tough road environment and will fall hard in this one.

Missouri St- seemingly always on the wrong side of the bubble, a 2nd win against Creighton will help them tremendously. I like them to get it done at home.

Villanova- Struggling so far this year but always tough at home. Seton Hall has been solid but winning on the road in the Big East is difficult and I don't think the Pirates are up to the task in this spot.

NCAA & NBA Picks 1/14

Here are my NCAA & NBA Picks for today.

NCAA

Top Picks

San Diego St +3.5 vs UNLV
Wyoming +4 vs New Mexico

Leans

Northwestern +4.5 vs Mich St
DePaul +15.5 vs Louisville

NBA

Top Pick
Sacramento/Dallas over 195

Leans
Chicago -14.5 vs Toronto

Writeups-

For the college picks, I am going with 3 home dogs and a road dog. In the Mountain West, both SD St and Wyoming are still flying under the radar and are dangerous. I won't be surprised if they win straight up.

Northwestern has been left for dead after a couple of close losses but they have some decent matchups vs Mich St and will keep hopes alive if they can win this one. I think at worst, they lose by a bucket.

DePaul is not a great defensive but they can score and L'Ville will win but the demons will keep it around 10 points and cover the big number.

Chicago- The Bulls are concluding a tough stretch and understandably could lay an egg here but I like them to stay motivated to continue their win streak and blowout the hapless Raptors.

Dallas is starting to get their act together and Sacramento will help the cause by playing their usual poor defense and look to pad their personal stats. This should fly over the 195.

College Basketball 1/12

One Top Pick tonight.

St Mary's -4 vs Gonzaga- This has developed into a decent 2nd tier rivalry. St Mary's will protect the home court and get an early leg up in conference play. Lay the 4.

LSU Vs Bama Pick

Unfortunately, I don't have time to go through my props so just the winner.

Ending the year on a good note.

5 Star Pick

LSU +1- They have the edge on offense, defense and special teams. Don't believe the Saban hype. The better team is LSU and they will not let you down.

Sunday, January 8, 2012

GoDaddy Bowl + NBA

One last college pick before the big one.

Top Pick

Ark St/Northern ILL over 66

One last shootout in what has been a a bowl season full of them.

NBA

Top Pick

Phoenix -7.5 vs Milwaukee

Grueling end to Milwaukee's road trip will end with a thrashing.

Cotton Bowl

Like the orange bowl, I don't have a big interest in this game.

I do have a lean though.

Arkansas team points over 36.5- It seems that the teams with high powered offenses are scoring at will in this year's bowl games.

I like the Razorbacks will continue that trend.

Orange Bowl, NBA and NCAA Hoops

Phew-  I dodged a bullet with the Michigan pick. I was impressed with Va Tech and give them credit for playing a great game and eventhough they lost, they were the better team last night.

Orange Bowl- Hate to say it but I don't really have a side on this one. Clemson seems pretty obvious but why are they only giving 3? First time for the WVU coach leading his squad in a bowl game so who knows if he will have his team ready or not.

Unofficial pick is Clemson and Over 64.

NBA

Leans

Miami/Pacers over 197.5- Miami suffered their first loss and shot the ball very poorly. I am looking for a correction. Pacers are trying to show they belong and I expect them to play well.

Minnesota -4.5 vs Grizzlies- Kind of strange line as Memphis is the better team but I think Minnesota takes advantage as the Grizzlies have struggled on road so far

NCAA

Top Pick

Iowa St +2 vs Texas- Good chance for the Cyclones to take advantage of a down Texas team at home on TV. I am expecting an inspired effort.

Sugar Bowl Pick

Nice day yesterday- almost got the clean sweep. The only blemish was Wisconsin. Time to keep the ball rolling tonight.

5 Star Play

Michigan -3 vs Va Tech.

It has been a pretty rough bowl season for the Big 10 however look for Michigan to turn that around tonight. I have been a big fan of Brady Hoke since he took a hapless Ball St team to their best season in a long time and then turned San Diego St into a very formidable team and now has Michigan looking very solid.

Hoke will have the Wolverines ready to go in this one and although they are playing a decent Va Tech team, they have equal or better talent at most positions and along with Hoke's preparation, this game will not be close.

Jump on the Wolverines and if you have already taken them then put some more on them.

Jan 2 Bowl Games Part 2

Moving on to the Rose and Fiesta Bowls.

Rose Bowl

Lean- Wisconsin +4 vs Oregon

Fiesta Bowl

Top Pick- Stanford +2.5 (First Half) vs OK St.

Rose Bowl- I am not quite ready to trust the Ducks in a bowl game. They have struggled when their offense has had a layoff and have not been the same juggernaut in bowl games that they have been in the regular season. Wisconsin does have some matchup problems, especially speedwise against Oregon but I think Russell Wilson will be the X factor in this game.

He will be able to use his veteran savvy to buy some extra time in the pocket and take advantage of a suspect Oregon defense.

Fiesta Bowl- I think this one will be a tale of 2 halves. I expect Stanford to be ultra prepared in this game and will come out very strong. OK st has been very good at making adjustments at half time and I think they will be able to figure it out but the best bet in this one is to ride Stanford early.

Jan 2 Bowl Games- Part 1

Took a hit on the 31st, still trying to figure out how Ga Tech blew that game.

Big day today though, starting with the first round of games.

Cotton Bowl

Top Pick- PSU/Houston under 55.5

Outback Bowl

Top Pick- MSU/Georgia over 49.5 and  lean -MSU +3

Capital One Bowl

Top Pick- South Carolina -3 vs Nebraska

Gator Bowl

Lean- Florida -2 vs Ohio St

PSU/Houston- Lot of negative story lines in this game, the Penn st situation still lingering, Houston blowing a chance to get to a BCS game and neither team having their coaching situations settled. With all of that, I do think both set of current coaches staff's will have their teams ready to go the best they can.

PSU- will keep it simple, put pressure on the QB and make the tackle when the receivers catch the ball. I expect the Nittany Lions to do this well and to keep the Houston offense in check. Offensively, PSU will run the ball and take their deep shots. I don't expect any kind of big numbers however they will break a big play here and there and get some scoring opportunities.

Houston will put the ball in the air but they have not played a team like Penn St before and will not be able to  move it consistently. Look for a lot of activity from their offense but not a lot of confidence meaning they will rack up the yards but not the points.

I think Houston probably will pull away but the way to go in this game is the under.

Outback Bowl- This looks to be a pretty good game. Both teams put together nice seasons but came up short in their conference championships. These teams are pretty similar with good athletes at every position and strong QB play. UGA gets the odd in overall athleticism and MSU gets the nod at better QB play. I expect a pretty wide open game with scoring coming from all 3 phases- offense, defense and special teams which will get the game over. I also think that it will come down to the final drive so take the points as well.

Gator Bowl- This side comes down to S. Carolina having more offensive weapons than Nebraska. I expect a close game but I do think the Gamecocks will pull away in the 2nd half. The Gamecocks will figure out the Nebraska option and the Huskers do not have enough talent at WR to take the pressure off the running game.

Like a lot of Nebraska's losses, they will be in the game the game to the end but will not be able to close out and South Carolina will win and cover.

Gator Bowl- These teams are not really worthy of a marquee bowl game but it is what it is. For Ohio st, the future looks bright again with Urban Meyer taking over. Florida looks to be in a bit of trouble as they were not even close to competing with the big boys in the SEC. I am pretty sure that the Gator's head coach has been doing everything he can to get his team ready to win this game and have a little ammunition to fend off the critics.

Florida wins this one in an ugly game.
